Often people are hesitant to begin the counseling for a number of reasons.

  • My problems aren't really that big of a deal

  • If I start working on this problem I may discover other issues.

  • I'm not a crazy person

  • People will look down on me

  • I'm strong enough to handle it on my own

  • I don't have time to go to counseling

  • My problems are unique and no one else can relate to them

  • It sounds like more work than I feel I can commit to right now

Most of the reasons that people have for not beginning their counseling have to do with their immediate, here-and-now, circumstances. Sadly not addressing the issues that you deal with in the here and now has a way of making life more difficult as the days, months and years go by.

There is no shame in going to counseling. Even if you believe you are emotionally healthy, another person's objective perspective can help improve the way you feel about life and your relationships.
